Dominic is in his last season at Navy and really making the best of it!  At Sallies he was a 3 x All-American and Penn Relays Mile Champion.  Dominic followed the Salliesrunning program of taking each season and year one at a time.  He followed "the process is the goal" and slowely but surely made a big name for himself.

2012 Indoor Track
State Champions!!!

On February 11th, 2012, the Indoor Track team wrote their names atop the storied pages of the Salesianum Indoor Track team’s history book.  NEVER has a Sallies team won with so many people scoring in so many events.   NEVER has a team been this deep!  Team spirit was seen, felt and heard bellowing throughout the UD Field House all day.  For the Seniors on the team, this journey to perfection started as young freshman competing against the best in the state.  Year by year, they kept chipping away.  Year by year they got faster, stronger and mentally tougher.   Now, as they say goodbye to Salesianum Indoor Track, they will forever be known as STATE CHAMPIONS!!!

·         4x800 of Mark Ciritella, Brien Gleason, Jon Grunewald and Tommy Zabielski all have season bests in the 800 and start things off with 3rd place!

·         Nick Miller jumps to 5’10” in the High Jump for 6th place!

·         Richey Murray and Justin Gregg fly high with 12’6” and 11’0” in the Pole Vault for 2nd and tie for 6th

·         James Goodavage is the team’s only winner of the day winning the shot by 6 feet!  Jared Lewis is the best sophomore in the state and gets 3rd overall!

·         Tim Mangan has the race of a lifetime and gets 4th in the 400!

·         In THE fastest 800 in State Championships history, Joe Casini, Andrew Wade and Tommy Zabielski score an astonishing 17 points in the 800 getting 2nd, 4th and 5th.  They ran 1:59, 2:01, 2:02!!!  Wade and Zabielski scored out of the slow heat!

·         Matt McKenna and Scott Davis take care of business in the 1600 getting 5th and 6th!

·         McKenna and Davis come back to double in the 3200 and get 4th and 6th with marvelously gutsy performances!

·         Craig O’Donnell shows the entire state that he is one of the best all-around athletes of the meet getting 6th in the 55HH and 2nd in the Long Jump!

·         4x400 of Andrew Wade, Mark Ciritella, Tim Mangan and Joe Casisni give everything left in the tank and finish 6th!

·         All the guys who came and didn’t run were 100% apart of today.  Your motivation and team spirit went a long way!!! 4myteam!

We are all so proud!!!

History Lesson of the Day!

Haile Gebrselassie

Geb was born in Ethiopia in 1973.  He grew up 1 of 10 kids on a small farm living in a hut.  He woke with the sun, worked in the fields, and then had to run over 10K round trip to school and back.  He was constantly late because his father didn’t approve of school.  He would even beat him if he didn’t get his chores done.  Geb would often sneak out at dark to go run…for fun!  He was later discovered by a running club when he hopped in a tempo run with them, barefoot, in cutoff jeans!  He stayed with them long enough to be invited to a training camp.  In 1992 he won the world Junior 5k and 10k. In 1993 he won the World Championships 10k.  In 1994 he set his first of many world records: 5k in 12:56.96.

In 1995, he destroyed the 5k world record by running 12:44.39 in Switzerland.  In 1996 and 2000 he won the Olympic 10k.  In 1998 he broke the 10k world record running 26.22.75.

Check out his movie: Endurance, which chronicles his life story.  It’s a little slow, but very inspiring!
